Time + Pressure = Diamonds

I have a friend who often asks me, “So, are you just naturally good at everything?”

I am not, and I tell her so.

But she sees me succeeding in multiple businesses, hobbies, friendships, public speaking events, etc. that she always comes back to this question.

My friend is twenty years younger than I am. What she doesn’t see is all of my past experiences (or my past failures).

My life didn’t begin when I met her.

I was on the earth making mistakes for twenty years before she was born. And that made me better at a lot of different things.

I’ve had the time and practice to learn what my skills are and how to use them in different areas of my life.

My point with this is three-fold:

(1) Comparing yourself to someone else is never fruitful. We all have our own set of circumstances and past experiences that mold us into who we are.

(2) Success (and repeated success) take time.

(3) Nobody knows what they are doing. As I tell my friend, I am just making sh*t up like everybody else. I try things. Sometimes it works wonderfully, and sometimes, not so much.

Wherever you are in your life, take time to look back and see how you’ve grown and what you’ve accomplished. You have done a lot. You are skilled at many things. And this will only increase over time.

Time + pressure = diamonds.  We all find our way.
